Vacation - Day 3

Warm day today. I felt bad for Marmie as it was hard for her to find places to keep cool. It will be warmer tomorrow. Yuck. I hate the hot.

Not too much to report today. I am watching A Clockwork Orange right now. I am not that impressed. Maybe it is dated since the movie was made 34 years ago.

Another comeback win for the Yankees. I can't believe tomorrow is August 1. Time flies. I see Stealth bombed at the box office. I still might get the DVD. Did I mention Jessica Biel was in it? :P

I just saw Rescue Me premieres on August 30 on Showcase. Dennis Leary is great in that show.

Vacation - Day 2

I enjoyed my second day of holidays. Up at 930, watched 4 taped episodes of Arrested Development, the Yankees game, and had a nap. I have watched okay movies since last night. The first was My Little Eye (http://imdb.com/title/tt0280969/). It was not very good. The second was The Girl in the Cafe (http://imdb.com/title/tt0443518/). It was pretty good. Interesting story with a positive message. The third movie was Head in the Clouds (http://imdb.com/title/tt0338097/) and it was okay. I went for dinner and now I have come home. I plan on watching The Seventh Sign (http://imdb.com/title/tt0096073/). It has Demi Moore in it. I remember watching it back in the late 80's. I seem to remember it being pretty bad. Ah, WTF, I have nothing better to do.

Did I mention the Yankees had a come from behind win today? It was pretty spectacular seeing them smoke the Angels. I see the Esks won today. 5-1 is not bad record.

Next Saturday the first NFL preseason game is on. Colts vs Falcons from Tokyo. Good times. And only four weeks from TWEFFL fantasy draft.

Vacation Day 1 (pt 2)

I saw Stealth (http://imdb.com/title/tt0382992/) this afternoon. This was the loudest movie I have ever seen. The movie wasn't that good but it was entertaining. Jessica Biel is smoking hot, even in flight gear (see right). She is also awesome in Blade:Trinity. At least the movie was better than Top Gun. However, almost every movie is better than a Tom Cruise film. I have been considering posting some lists of my top ten movies, TV shows and CD's. Make some comments and let me know what you want me to riff on. Well, time to settle in for the night.

VK is out!

Vacation Day 1

So I sit here reading and listening to the digital music 80's channel and I got to thinking what ever happened to such talented artists like Richard Marx and Laura Branigan? LOL. Just kidding.

Long Time

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been a little busy and have not had a chance to update. Hopefully, I will not have this period of time between updates again.

Two more days of work and then I am on holidays. I have been contemplating what I want to do. I have considered Vegas, adopting a new pal for Marmie (see picture), or buying and hanging new curtains. Well, I will probably get a buddy for Marmie so she is not all alone during the day. Vegas was a strong consideration until I saw the air fares to go. Ridiculous! The airlines have jacked up the fares in both Canada and the US. Now, I am all for free market competition and all but the airline industry in Canada is a joke. One national airline is so monopolistic it should be illegal. Air Canada is arguably the worst run business in Canada. The management team is a joke and the airline will fall on hard times again. For a plane ticket to cost $700 to fly to LAS is not okay. It is robbery. Granted, the government is partly to blame since $250 of this $700 is taxes, but come on. I never want to fly Air Canada but in some cases I don't have a choice. Moral of this story "Lack of choice is a bad thing".

So back to my vacation plans, I am just going to hang around the house. Marmie needs a buddy but I am concerned that a new cat will upset her and cause her stress. We will see what happens.

The weekend was pretty good considering the Yankees nearly got swept by the Los Angeles Angel of Anaheim (of California in the United States of the planet Earth). I watched a couple of movies. The original Manchurian Candidate (w/ Frank Sinatra) was awesome. A little dated by the acting is top notch. I also watched Troy (again) and I realized that Orlando Bloom can't act. He is like the Britney Spears of the movie business.

I saw some commercials for the new TV shows of the upcoming season and I have to say that none of them have looked that interesting. There must be 3 shows about invading aliens. One could think that Americans are afraid of foreigners or something. One of the worst TV show trailers I saw was for the new NBC show called E-ring with Dennis Hopper and Benjamin Bratt (L&O cop). It looks absolutely terrible. Cliches aplenty. I am looking forward to Over There by Steven Bochvco (about the war in Iraq) and that is about it. 24 isn't back until January. And Alias is going to work Jennifer Garner's baby in to the show. LAME!!!

Gotta go.

Fantasy Football Blues

The Yankees lost 2-1 to Texas and have fallen from first. They will be back.

I am a commissioner of a fantasy league (http://www.members.shaw.ca/tweffl/) and sometimes it drives me nuts. Owners are a finicky bunch. Last January we had an owners meeting and voted on keeping the draft type for one additional season as serpentine and then next season a draft like the NFL. 1-12, 13-25, etc. Well, this has caused more controversy than the infamous picking up of a third QB issue a couple of seasons ago. It doesn't really matter to me what order the draft is in because I don't think it really matters. It would be hard to say that where one picks in the draft really detemines where they will finish in the league. I will, as a fair commish, allow any discussion on the matter but it seems unlikely that this rule will be overturned. Some times running a league is not worth the headache as very rarely is an appreciation shown by the owners and yet you are expected to deal with their issues. It can be fun and that is why I stick with it though.

I am on vacation starting in 8 says. Awesome. I am not sure what I am going to do but be assured it will involve a whole lot of doing nothing.

A couple of days ago I commented that Entourage is a really cool show. I have decided to make a list of my favorite shows (in no particular order) that I am watching this summer for the first time. Let me know what you think.

1 Entourage on Moviecentral

2 Nip/Tuck on W

3 The Inside (on Fox) I think it has already been cancelled as there is some gay dance show on tonight.

4 The Crusades on History

5 DaVinci's Inquest (old episodes) on Showcase

The shows I continue to watch yet suck will be listed tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by.

Blood Bath

Yikes, Yahoo is down big time in afterhours. Some much for the early retirement.

Until we meet again.

1st Place

Well, the Yankees have moved into first place. I can't say they will be there for long but it is definitely nice to see. Kevin Brown stunk it up last night and should be shown the door.

Someone told me there is too much baseball talk on this blog. Well, I say to hell with that. Come football season, there will be a lot of football discussion. If you don't like sports you probably should not read this blog.

So yesterday a friend of mine (let's call him Rod) sent me this link http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-16.337013,-71.959763&spn=0.110893,0.158186&t=k&hl=en . Is this for real? My friend seems convinced that aliens with lasers burned this into the desert in Peru. Make some comments and let me know what you think. Alien conspiracy's make me laugh. I am pretty sure that there are other living beings in the universe. It is a matter of numbers. However, it seems unlikely that aliens would have come any distance to earth. The other thing that makes me laugh is that these aliens supposedly come all this way to earth and abduct hicks from the hillbilly sticks of Kentucky and Arkansas. No one with any credibility has ever said that they have been abducted and there is absolutely no proof. Nut jobs!

I think my favorite TV show of the summer is Entourage. This is an HBO series that depicts the life of a Hollywood star and his buddies. It is pretty funny stuff. I definitely recommend that everyone check it out. And what happened to A&E? I remember when they showed documentaries and interesting programs. Yesterday, I saw them advertising a reality show about people who have tattoos. Ridiculous.

Ciao for now.

Monday Morning

Three days off and I feel like I need three more. Oh well, what do you do?

This weekend was okay. The Yankees won 3 of 4 from the Red Sox. After the 17-1 drubbing I was a little concerned (see Saturday's post) but they came back and played solid ball. Al Leiter? Where did that kind of performance come from?

NFL training camps open next week. Stay tuned for my pre-season/pre-training camps predictions. I will most likely change my mind but whatever, it is always good to talk NFL. I saw the Titans are on the verge of signing Travis Henry from the Bills(http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2109498)
This makes Tennessee a better team but I think the whole team comes down to how well McNair can play.

I watched Braveheart on Saturday night. I don't see what the big deal is. It was pretty good but I sure don't understand why it is some many peoples favorite movie. I also watched Die Another Day. Maybe it is not such a bad thing that Pierce Brosnan will not be the next Bond. He is cool but those movies need to get back to stories as opposed to just setting up for the next big explosion and physics defying stunt.

Go to go. Check back later.

Saturday Ramblings

Here's the thing, the Yankees lose 17-1 last night and I am disgusted. Who the hell are these guys? May and Redding? Brutal. This pitching staff is so bad I long the days of Andy Hawkins and Dave LaPoint. Hell, maybe Tommy John is available. Or at least a Neikro.

I hate the Red Sox. Such an arrogant swagger. I suppose they have the right to be cocksure but come one.

Giambi with a bunt single. First of his career?

Yankees are going to win today. 7-4 going into the 9th and Mo is coming to pitch. BTW, judging by the HDTV feed of the game of the game on FOX today, there are a lot of good looking babes in Beantown. I guess not everything in Boston is bad (just the Sox and Patriots).

7.5MM to the winner of the WSOP. Wow, now that is real money. This kind of money will drive the bad players into all the local card rooms and casinos. Awesome, I will enjoy taking some townies money who thinks he is Moneymaker or the next Johnny Chan. Suckers.

So I watched all five Rocky's this week. Rocky one and two for the first time ever. I have to say that Rocky one was pretty good but the other 4 sucked. When I was a kid I thought 3 and 4 were cool. I guess I grew up.

Til next time!

Yankees

So the Yankees beat the Sux tonight 8-6. Looking good Curt Shelling. A-Rod comes through finally in a clutch spot and Giambi smacks another. 1.5 out. Look out above.

First Ramblings

This is my first attempt at a blog. I will ramble on about sports, entertainment and whatever else I feel like going on about. I look forward to your comments.
